Registration Problems:
If the copies are consistently but mildly misregistered
...
- You can adjust the Lead Edge Registration (timing of the registration solenoid) by turning VR4 on the Main Board (Read about: Adjusments, VR's)
If the image is consistently and grossly misregistered...
- Check the alignment of the flag on the front end of the Exposure Lamp Carriage (the flag blocks the Optical Registration Sensor to determine where "home" position is).
- If you find that the sheet is early, the Registration Gate may be binding in the down position allowing the sheet to blow right through the gate early... the Registration Solenoid can be tested using Diagnostic Code '83' (refer to “Checking Clutches, Motors, etc.”). If you find that the Solenoid is constantly energized, check the blue wire for a short to ground.
If the sheet is late and the image is randomly misregistered... then the problem could well be feed related.
- If troubles only happen from the Upper (right side) cassette, go read about Tray 1 Misfeeds.
- If the problem only occurs from the lower drawer, go read about Tray 2 Misfeeds.
