STATUS CODES:

  • E Status Code: Lens Position fault (5008 R/E only)
  • H Status Code: Fuser problem… if the thermal breaker is popped, reset it and check the cooling fan & the thermistor to see why it might’ve overheated.
  • L Status Code: (5008/09,5240/60,5307) Platen Drive or Main Drive Problem.
  • L1/L3 Status Code: (5280,5308/09/10) Scanner Drive Problem.
  • L4 Status Code: (5280,5308/09/10) Main PWB didn’t see the Main Motor run at power up.
  • L5 Status Code: (5280,5308/09/10) Lens Drive Problem.
  • P Status Code: Paper Jam / Misfeed.
OTHER PROBLEMS:
  • Machine sits idle when print is pressed (may be clicking)... If the toner light is not on but the machine sits idle and continues running, the machine may simply be looking for toner. Sometimes it takes a long time before the toner light actually comes on. If the machine does this for more than 3 minutes, check the toner reclaim to make sure it isn’t filling up really quick… if it is, then the machine may have a failing or filthy Discharge Lamp (the one with the red filter) which would allow the drum to be coated with toner while the machine is trying to tone up. You can also check the drum ground for contamination.
  • Toner light stays on after new cartridge is installed... After the machine is finished cycling, if it still calls for toner, turn the power off and back on for the 2nd cycling. New toner cartridges have fresh developer which may need extra toning up. This can be true of both OEM & refilled cartridges.
If the symptom persists, check out the toner dispense gear at the rear of the machine which stirs the toner (it's a coupling gear which is spring loaded against another gear).
  • Dark Strobes across page (front to rear): Can happen when the Separation Belt wears through the drum’s surface to the substrate. Replacing the drum should do the trick.
  • Resetting the Drum Count: A new Cartridge will have an actuator sticking out the rear. It is designed to push a lever on the Counter Mechanism inside the machine and then spring back into the cartridge (so it won’t reset the machine again). The actuator can be reset on the cartridge, or… if that fails, you can unplug the machine, remove the Cartridge & push the lever on the Counter Mechanism with your finger to reset the count. Note that Starter Cartridges came without the actuator piece.
