Status Codes:
Tray 3 Lamp Flashing = Bypass Feed problem.
C1 Tray 1 misfeed (paper leaving didn’t reach the Registration Gate Sensor in time)
C2 Tray 2 misfeed
E1 Exit sensor jam (paper didn’t reach the Exit Switch in time or paper is sitting on the Registration Gate Sensor during standby)
E3 Exit sensor jam (paper did not leave the Exit Switch in time or paper is sitting on the Exit Switch during standby)
E6 Paper tray cover interlock is open.
J1 Low Toner.
J3 No copy cartridge installed.
J7 Copy Cartridge has reached ‘end of life’.
J8 Wrong Copy Cartridge.
L6 Auditron or other attached accessory is not enabled.
U1 Main Motor problem (Main Board didn’t sense clock signals from Main Motor during copy cycle)
U2 Scan problem (Main Board sensed that the lamp carriage did not scan properly)
U3 Lens problem (Main Board didn’t sense that the lens moved at the proper time)
U4* Fuser took too long to warm up,
or: Fuser overheat,
or: Open Thermistor, Lamp or Thermal Fuse.
U6 Main Board problem (Main Board sensed an EPROM read/write error)
U8 Exposure problem (Main Board sensed that the Exposure Sensor didn’t detect light from the Exposure Lamp during the copy cycle)

To enter diagnostics: Turn on the copier while holding the ‘0’ button...all control panel lamps will light.
To enter a code: Enter the first part of the code followed by the 'Start' button, then the second part of the code followed by the 'Start' button again.
Note: If an invalid code is entered, ‘Er’ is displayed. Press 'Stop' and enter a new code.

*To clear a fuser code: Enter diagnostics, enter ‘52’ followed by ‘Start’. If a fuser code is current, the number '1' will flash, enter ‘0’ to clear the code followed by ‘Start’ to lock in your selection. Press ‘Stop’ and then you can shut down.

Checking the Total Copy Count: When the copier is at ready, press the ‘0’ button and hold for at least 6 seconds...’cc’ will be displayed followed by six digits (two digits at a time, for about 2 second intervals) followed at the end by ‘cc’ again. (ie: cc 01 23 45 cc would indicate 12,345 copies). Checking the Drum Cartridge (CRU) Count: When the copier is at ready, press the ‘Stop’ button and hold it for at least 6 seconds... the number displayed x1000 is the cartridge count (rounded to the nearest 1000 copies).

To run the copier with jam detection off or without paper (Jam Bypass): Press ‘2’ while turning on power... When the copier comes to ‘Ready’, use Tray 1... All status codes will work except the paper jam codes (C1,C2,E1,E3). To exit this mode, turn off the copier.

Testing Switches & Sensors: (Input Component Codes) In diagnostic mode, enter the code for the component, press ‘Start’, then manually actuate the switch or sensor and watch for the Ready Lamp to turn on & off.

Checking Clutches, Motors, Lamps, Solenoids & Corotrons: (Output Component Codes)
Use these codes to test a component such as a clutch or motor. Enter the code followed by ‘Start’ to activate a component. Most components will activate for 1 second (the Exposure lamp will light for 30 seconds).

Changing NVM Settings: (Non Volatile Memory Settings)
Use these entry codes to read & alter settings for machine performance. To change a setting... enter the diagnostic code you want, press ‘Start’ (the current setting will be displayed). Enter the new value followed by ‘Start’ and then ‘Stop’.

*Setting the Exposure Levels: Put the Exposure Lever at the center position, turn off the ‘Auto Exposure’, and select 100% magnification. Enter Diagnostic Code ‘21’. Press the ‘Start’ button, the copier will make 10 copies. Adjust the exposure during the copy cycle by pressing the ‘5’ to increase, or the ‘0’ to decrease the exposure. Repeat this process in 64% magnification & 129% magnification.
If this process doesn’t give you enough of a handle, VR1 on the Main Board (under the Upper Rear Cover) is the coarse adjustment. Set the exposure level at 32 using the procedure above. Then turn VR1 (clockwise increases exposure).

** Setting the White Level Reference Value: Enter Diagnostic Code ‘28’. Cover the entire Document Glass with plain white paper & close the Platen Cover. Press ‘Start’, the display will show ‘bb’. Select 100% and press ‘Start’. One copy will be made and the white reference Correction Value is stored in memory. The copier leaves diagnostic mode. Then go back into diagnostic mode & enter code ‘29’ followed by ‘Start’. Add 11 to the value displayed and enter that new value. Press ‘Start’ to lock in the new value.

To Program your copier to your preferences:

  • Press the ‘Auto’ button for about 6 seconds. The copier diagram lights will flash.
  • Enter the 'Program Number' followed by ‘Start’. The current setting will be displayed (Default for all of the Programs is ‘1’).
  • Enter your choice from the available Program Options and press ‘Start’. Press ‘Auto’ to exit the Programming Mode.
If you want to change the Paper Tray your machine uses by default:
The 'Program Number' is ‘20’.
The options are: 1 = Tray 1... 2 = Tray 2... 3 = Bypass Tray
Turning the 'Auto Clear' function On & Off:
(Note: Auto Clear must be On for the Power Saver function to work).
The 'Program Number' is ‘21’.
The options are: 0 = Off (Disabled)... 1 = On (Enabled)...
Turning the 'Power Saver' function On & Off:
(Note: Auto Clear must be ‘on’ for the Power Saver function to work).
Power Saver causes the machine to go to a lower level of readiness. It displays ‘--’ 4 minutes after the last copy is can press any key to return to Standby Mode.
The 'Program Number' is ‘24’.
The options are: 0 = Off (Disabled)... 1 = On (Enabled)
Selecting an alternative default magnification:
The 'Program Number' is ‘25’.
Your options are: 1 = 100%... 2 = 64%... 3 = 78%... 4 = 129%... 5 = 154%
To turn the 'Auto Contrast' option on and off:
The 'Program Number' is ‘45’.
