STATUS CODES:

A1 SDF Document Jam
A2 SDF Document Jam
CH Toner Cartridge not present or not seated properly
H2 Thermistor Open
H3* High fuser temperature
H4* Low fuser temperature
L1 Scanner carriage did not leave home position on power up or upon pressing start
L3 Scanner carriage did not return to home position after copy cycle
L4 Main motor problem
L5 Lens did not leave home after power up or upon selecting reduction or enlargement
P Paper feed problem (Paper didn’t reach the paper feed sensor in time)
U2** Memory failure
U5 SDF high temperature (or SDF thermistor failure)

DIAGNOSTICS:

To enter diagnostics: Turn on the power and within 4 seconds press the following sequence: ‘Clear’, ‘Exposure Mode’, ‘Clear’, ‘Exposure Mode’ (Exposure Mode is the button on the far left). The console will go completely blank.

To enter a code: Select the first part of the code using the copy quantity buttons, followed by the ‘Print’ button, then the second part of the code followed by the ‘Print’ button again.

To exit diagnostics: Press ‘Clear’ repeatedly or turn the power off.

*To clear a fuser code:(14) Enter diagnostics, select ‘14’ followed by ‘Print’… exit diagnostics.

**To Clear a U2 code:(16) Enter diagnostics, select ‘16’ followed by ‘Print’… exit diagnostics.

 

Testing Switches & Sensors: (Input Component Codes)
In diagnostic mode, enter the code for the component, press ‘Print’, then manually actuate the switch or sensor and watch for the Ready Lamp to turn on & off.

Checking Clutches, Motors, Lamps, Solenoids & Corotrons: (Output Component Codes)
Use these codes to test a component such as a clutch or motor. Enter the code followed by ‘Start’ to activate a component. Most components activate for 1 second (Exposure lamp lights for 30)

Code Component
1-1 Scan Drive Motor
- The first time ‘Print’ is pressed, optics move into home position... Then select the magnification you want to observe... the second time ‘Print’ is pressed, optics scan at the speed corresponding to the magnification selected.
- The Drum Cartridge Lamp should light whenever the scanner reaches the home position.
1-3 Lens Motor
- Lens steps through each magnification once.
1-4 Lens Motor
- Lens steps through each magnification repeatedly until ‘Clear’ is pressed.
2-3 SDF Motor
- SDF Motor rotates for 10 seconds at a speed corresponding to the selected magnification
after ‘Print’ is pressed twice.
2-4 Document Feed Solenoid
- Solenoid turns on for 10 seconds.
2-5 Document Registration Clutch
- Registration Roll Clutch turns on for 10 seconds each time ‘Print’ is pressed.
5-1 Control Panel Lamps
- Half of the console lamps light each time ‘Print’ is pressed.
5-2 Fuser Lamp
- Press ‘Print’, lamp pulses on 5 times.
5-3 Exposure Lamp
- Lamp lights for 5 seconds each time ‘Print’ is pressed.
5-4 Discharge Lamp
- Lamp lights for 30 seconds each time ‘Print’ is pressed.
5-5 Side Erase Lamp
- Each time ‘Print’ is pressed, each Side Erase Lamp lights in sequence, then all stay on for 10 seconds.
10 Toner Motor
- When ‘Print’ is pressed, motor runs for 30 sec.
25-1 Main Motor
- When ‘Print’ is pressed, motor runs for 30 sec.

 

Checking the Total Copy Count:(22-5) Enter diagnostics, select ‘22’, ‘Print’ followed by ‘5’, ‘Print’...The copy count will flash 2 digits at a time for a total of six digits (for example: 01 23 45 would indicate 12,345 copies).
(Can also be done by the customer by holding the ‘Clear’ button for 7 seconds)

Checking the Drum Cartridge (CRU) Count:(22-12) Enter diagnostics, select ‘22’, ‘Print’ followed by ‘12’, ‘Print’...The copy count will flash 2 digits at a time for a total of six digits (for example: 00 23 45 would indicate 2,345 copies).

Drum Count Reset:(24-7) Enter diagnostics, select ‘24’, ‘Print’, followed by ‘7’,’Print’, followed by ‘Print’ again. This resets the drum count to zero.

Drum Cartridge Life End Disable/Enable:(27)
Enter diagnostics, select 27, ‘Print’...The current drum life configuration will be displayed. ‘0’=End of life disabled, ‘1’=End of life enabled. Select the configuration you want and press ‘Print’. Then exit diagnostics.
If you choose to disable the drum end of life warning, inform the customer that they’ll need to watch copy quality to know when it’s time to replace the Cartridge.

Adjusting the Developer Bias:

Remove the rear cover. . Connect the ‘+’ side of your meter from the blue DV Bias Terminal on the upper right corner of the High Voltage Power Supply (HVPS) and the ‘-’ side to the chassis. Enter diagnostics…
Select Code 8-1... When ‘Print’ is pressed, the Developer Bias will be present for 30 seconds. Adjust by turning VR201 on the HVPS for a voltage of -150 VDC +/- 10 VDC.

Adjusting the Grid Bias:
Remove the rear cover. Connect ‘+’ to the ‘GB’ terminal on the lower left of the HVPS & ‘-’ to the chassis. Enter diagnostics...
Select Code 8-2... When ‘Print’ is pressed, the Grid Bias (for ‘Normal’ mode) will be present for 30 seconds. Adjust VR301 on HVPS for a voltage of -650 VDC +/-13 VDC.
Select Code 8-3... When ‘Print’ is pressed, the Grid Bias (for ‘Toner Save’ mode) will be present for 30 seconds. Adjust VR301 on HVPS for a voltage of -500 VDC +/-10 VDC.
Select Code 8-4... When ‘Print’ is pressed, the Grid Bias (for ‘Photo’ mode) will be present for 30 seconds. Adjust VR301 on HVPS for a voltage of -400 VDC +/-8 VDC.

Fuser Temperature Adjustment:(43-1)
Enter diagnostics... Enter ‘43’,’Print’...1’,’Print’... the current setting will be displayed.
0=170 (default)... 1=175...2=180...3=185...4=190...5=195. If you want to change the setting, use the copy quantity button & press ‘Print’ to lock in your selection.

Fuser Temperature Adjustment for Multiple Copy Runs:(43-2)
After 20 copies, the machine is designed to lower the fusing temperature to a preset value.
Enter diagnostics... Enter ‘43,’Print’...’2’,’Print’... the current setting is displayed.
0=160...1=165 (default)...2=170...3=175...4=180...5=185. Change using the copy quantity select button & press ‘Print’ to lock in your selection.

Exposure Adjustment:(47 & 46-1…for SDF=51-6)
Should be done after replacing Exposure lamp, Exposure Sensor, Exposure PWB, or Main PWB First clean all optics & align the "Exposure Plates" on the Exposure Lamp Carriage so that the copy is evenly exposed.

  • Cover the entire document glass with blank copy paper & close the cover. Enter diagnostics & select ‘47’ (adjusts the "White Reference Level"). The display shows a hex code which represents the current setting, the exposure lamp carriage moves to the measuring position. Press ‘Print’… the lamp lights & the display indicates the new hex code. Press ‘Clear’ to exit the ‘47’ diagnostic code.
  • Then select ‘46’, ‘Print’, ‘1’, ‘Print’… Place a Test Pattern on the glass, select the copy mode (Text, Photo, or Toner save) & the copy contrast (Light, Mid, or Dark) you wish to adjust… Press ‘Print’ to run a copy. The current exposure level is displayed. Increase the number shown (range is from 00 to 99) to increase exposure (lighter copy). Decrease the number shown to darken the copy.
  • For SDF Exposure adjustment, follow same procedure but use the diagnostic code ‘51’, ‘Print’, ‘6’ ‘Print’ instead of the 46-1 shown above.

Magnification Adjustments:(48-1) Ranges are from 00 to 99, Default=50.

  • "Front to Rear" magnification: (adjusts the position of the lens)
    Enter diagnostics, select ‘48’, ‘Print’, ‘1’, ‘Print’. Press the ‘Exposure Mode’ button until only the ‘Auto’ lamp is lit. Adjust up to increase magnification, down to decrease. Exit diagnostics.
  • ."Lead Edge to Trail Edge" magnification: (adjusts the scan speed)
    Enter diagnostics and select ‘48’, ‘Print’,’1’, ‘Print’. Press the ‘Exposure Mode’ button until only the ‘Auto’ and ‘Text’ lamps are lit. Adjust the number shown up to increase magnification or down to decrease. Exit diagnostics.
  • "SDF Lead Edge to Trail Edge" magnification: (adjusts document speed)
    Same procedure but press the ‘Exposure Mode’ button until "Auto, Manual & Photo" lamps light.

Registration & Deletion Adjustments:(50-1) Ranges are 00 to 99, Default=50

  • Lead Edge Registration:(changes the timing of the sheet) Enter diagnostic code ‘50’, ’Print’, ’1’, ’Print’… press ‘Exposure’ and ‘Contrast’ buttons until ‘Auto’ & ‘Normal’ lamps are lit… Increase number shown to decrease the distance between the lead edge & the image.
  • SDF Lead Edge Registration: Same as above but press ‘Exposure’ and ‘Contrast’ buttons until ‘Auto’, ‘Manual’, & ‘Photo’ lamps are lit to make your changes.
  • Lead Edge Deletion: Enter diagnostics, select ‘50’, ‘Print’, ‘1’, ‘Print’. Press ‘Exposure’ and ‘Copy Contrast’ buttons until only the ‘Auto’ & ‘Light’ lamps are lit… adjust number shown up to increase deletion… down to decrease.
  • Trail Edge Deletion: Enter diagnostic code 50-1… press ‘Exposure’ and ‘Contrast’ buttons until ‘Auto’ & ‘Dark’ lamps are lit… adjust number shown up to increase, down to decrease.

Registration Buckle: (51-2) Ranges from 00 to 99… Default=14 (140ms)

  • Paper Tray Registration Buckle: Enter diagnostics, select ’51’, ‘Print’, ‘2’, ‘Print’…press the ‘Exposure’ button until only the ‘Auto’ lamp is lit. Use copy quantity buttons to change setting 1 step = 10 ms (microseconds).
  • Alternate Tray Registration Buckle: same as above but press the ‘Exposure’ button until only the ‘Auto’ & ‘Text’ lamps are lit.
  • SDF Tray Registration Buckle: same but press the ‘Exposure’ button until the ‘Auto’, ‘Manual’, & ‘Photo’ lamps are lit.

 

Configuration Codes: to display & change various machine configurations… to change, select new number with copy quantity buttons, then press ‘Print’

26-11 Drum Life Correction Adjustment 0 – 5 2 Exposure Lamp voltage increases after 3000 copies

0 = No Correction
1 = 0.33 Volts AC
2 = 0.66 Volts AC
3 = 0.99 Volts AC
4 = 1.32 Volts AC
5 = 1.65 Volts AC
