X- ACRONYMS & ABBREVIATIONS:

Xerox has a tendency of creating a language all it’s own using acronyms & abbreviations… the more you use their manuals, the more familiar the terminology becomes… but they also like to change the acronyms as time goes on, so here’s keeping you posted.  We’ve also included a bunch of terms common to the industry to be thorough.

ACDC Area Coverage Density Control X- Terminology
ACK Acknowledgement Electrical Term A message sent to indicate that a block of data has arrived at its destination without errors.

AMP Ampere Electrical Term Measurement of amplitude of an electrical current.

Bit Binary digit (either 1 or 0) Electrical Term Represents electrical state, where 1 is "hi", 0 is "low".

C CopyCentre X- Model # Terminology C35 = implies CopyCentre 35... for example.
CAN Control Area Network X- Terminology
CAP Capacitor Electrical Component Also sometimes abreviated as "C"
CB Chute (Registration) Bias X- Terminology
CC CopyCentre X- Model # Terminology Models which are CopyCentres are configured to be only a copier and not a printer. CC C35 = CopyCentre C35... for example.
CCD Charge Coupled Device X- Part Description Photoelectric Converter (basically a digital scanner)
CD Circuit Diagram X- Service Manual Term Wiring diagrams
CFF Computer Form Feeder (or Fan Fold) X- Terminology Feeds & handles continuous computer paper.
CIS Contact Image Sensor X- Part Description A bar of "eyes" which scan the original as it passes over it (usually found on fax machines).

CRU Customer Replaceable Unit X- Part Description A module in a machine which is designed to be replaced by the customer (usuallyl a drum cartridge or in some machines the fuser may be a CRU.
CRUM Customer Replaceable Unit Monitor X- Part Description The Connector on the Copy Cartridge.
CSE Customer Service Engineer X- Terminology
CSF Compact Sorter Finisher X- Part Description
CVT Constant Velocity Transport X- Part Description Used in SDFs to move the document at scanning speed.
DADF Duplex Automatic Document Feeder X- Part Description Similar functions to ADF, ADH, RDH, SDF with subtle differences.
DB Developer Bias X- Terminology Electrical Current used on developer magnetic roll or toner dispense roll.
dC Diagnostic Control X- Terminology DC Routines are diagnostic access on more complex models such as the 5340 series.  DC is also more commonly used to abbreviate "Direct Current".
DC Docucentre / DocumentCentre X- Model # Terminology DC 212/214 & DC 220/230 for example.
DC DocuColor X- Model # Terminology DC12 = DocuColor12... for example.
DC Direct Current Electrical Term Machine converts AC electricity into DC to run components & logic.  DC is also used in Xerox Teminology for "Diagnostic Control".
DC COM Direct Current Comon Electrical Term Ground in a Direct Current circuit.
DDM Dedicated Duplex Module X- Part Description Tray which is used exclusively for duplex function.
DEV Developer X- Part Description
DH Document Handler X- Part Description See also ADH etc.

DM Duplex Module X- Part Description The drawer or module which handles duplexing (making double sided prints or copies).

DP Diagnostic Procedure X- Service Manual Term A subsection in some manuals found in section 6, General Procedures (GP).
DRC Delivery / Rigger Carrier X- Part Description
DSDF Duplexing Stationary Doc Feeder X- Part Description Duplexing version of the document feeders which move the original across a slit-glass.
DT De-tack X- Terminology Refers to the wire used to De tack the copy paper from the photoreceptor (next to the Transfer wire)

EEA External Ethernet Adapter X- Part Description A board used to connect a printer to a network.

ESD Electrostatic Discharge Electrical Term A transfer of charge between bodies at different electrostatic potential.
ESS Electronic Switching System X- Part Description The network module on some printers or multi-function models (for example on the DC332st).
ESU Electrostatic Setup X- Terminology A setup procedure done on some machines when replacing the photoreceptor.

FCOT First Copy Out Time General Term
FIA Foreign Interface Accessory X- Part Description A board which allows hardware such as an external auditron or Coin-op to interface with a copier.
FL Filter X- Part Description
FS Fast Scan X- Terminology A direction of scanning (inboard to outboard).
FSMA Full Service Maintenance Agreement X- Terminology
G Ground Electrical Term Also abbreviated GND & synonymous with Common, Earth (E), and Neutral (N).
G/Y Green & Yellow Wire Color Green & Yellow striped wire in a wiring diagram (also abbreviated Y/G).
GDI Graphical Device Interface X- Part Description Board which accepts data from a Personal Computer.
GFD Ground Fault Device X- Part Description Synonymous with Grounf Fault Interrupt (GFI), & also Ground Fault Protector (GFP).
GFI Ground Fault Interrupt X- Part Description A breaker often located on the cord of the machine designed to protect the copier in the case of a short circuit or surge.
GFP Ground Fault Protector X- Part Description Synonymous with GFI & also GFD.
GND Ground Electrical Term Also abbreviated "G", also called Common, Earth (E), or Neutral (N).
GP General Procedures X- Service Manual Term Section 6 of most current manuals, includes diagnostic tests & procedures.
GRAIB Generic Remote Accessories Interface Board X- Part Description
GRAY Gray  Wire Color Gray wire in a wiring diagram
GRN Green Wire Color Green wire in a wiring diagram.
GUI Graphical User Interface X- Part Description The touchscreen on the control console of machines such as the 5340 style is often referred to as a GUI.
H High General Term The electrical state of a circuit is referred to as "High" resistance (open) or "Low" (L) resistance (closed).
HCF High Capacity Feeder X- Part Description Optional paper deck offered on some machines, similar functionally to HCT, & LCT with subtle differences.
HCT High Capacity Tray X- Part Description Similar functionally to High Capacity Feeder (HCF).
HFSI High Frequency Service Item X- Service Manual Term Items which have a specific yield after which it they should be replaced and a counter must be reset in the machine.
HVPS High Voltage Power Supply X- Part Description Board which provides voltages for coronas & such
Hz Hertz (Cycles per Second) Unit of Measurement Machines in the US are 60 Hz, 50 Hz is usually (not always) used for 220volt machines.

IIL Inter-Image Lamp X- Part Description Lamp which discharges the photoreceptor drum in-between copies when the charge is still on but the exposure lamp is off.
IISS Image Input Sub-System X- Part Description The reading / scanning portion of a copier or multifunction machine.
IIT Image Input Terminal X- Part Description The reading / scanning portion of a copier or multifunction machine.
INTLK Interlock X- Terminology
IOT Input Output Terminal X- Part Description Part of the logic system of some of the more complex copiers such as the 5340 style.
IOT Image Output Terminal X- Part Description Part of the machined which outputs the copy or print (laser, xerograhics, paper transport and fusing.
IPS Image Print Services X- Terminology
IQ Image Quality X- Service Manual Term Section 3 of current manuals addresses image quality problems (on copiers without printing functions, section is called: "CQ")

Q Semi-Conductor or Sensor X- Terminology Sensors are given a number in the manual with Q as the prefix (I.e.Q7).

RAM Random Access Memory Electrical Term Readable, writable memory circuit.

SSR Solid State Relay Electrical Component Used in the stead of a Triac for turning on & off voltage to a fuser lamp or such.
T Transfer X- Terminology
TAG Tags are field upgrades/changes X- Service Manual Term Each machine has a Tag matrix (a sticker with a grid of #'s), the #'s marked are the Tag's which the machine has installed in it.
TE Trail Edge of Copy X- Terminology Opposite of LE
TM Tray Module X- Part Description An optional module on some models which adds extra paper drawers.
TP Test Point X- Terminology Test Points are marked on the boards to help in diagnosing problems.
TTM Two Tray Module X- Part Description Used on 5018 style, the drawer with 2 paper sources in it, not used for duplexing.
TUI Textual User Interface X- Part Description A Message Display offered as a less expensive alternative to the touchscreens or Graphical User Interface (GUI) on the 5837/45/55 machines.

W/ With X- Terminology Often used to say a machine is "With" a particular Tag upgrade (for example: W/ TAG 5)
W/O Without X- Terminology Often used to say a machine is "Without" a particular Tag upgrade (for example: W/O TAG 5)
WC WorkCentre / Work Center X- Model # Terminology For example WC 265 = WorkCentre 265... a recent model in the C35 style which has both copying and printing ability.
WCP WorkCentre Pro X- Model # Terminology (i.e. WCP55 = WorkCentre Pro 55... for example. Pro machines are in some cases the more advanced models in a group of models with more multifunction features such as scanning images to a computer.
