Multi-Feed Sensor problems
First … You have the choice to disable the Multi Feed Sensing feature on the machine if you fail to repair the problem or if you have a hard time sourcing the sensor or the board. The NVM Setting code is: 742-268. If you go into NVM Read / Write and set that to “1” it will disable the multi feed sensing. The default setting is “0” which means “enabled”.
Second… double check the Multi Feed Sensor assembly. Make sure it is in position and all the screws which hold it to together are in place and tightened properly. In particular check a pair of tiny little screws holding a canister shaped piece (the sensor itself) to the frame piece of the sensor assembly. Folks have reported one or both of these two screws having walked-out, and they may even fall off entirely. Then the sensor is not held quite right and this fault code results.

Third… There is an adjustment for the sensitivity of the sensor. You will measure the sensor’s output and turn a VR (Variable Resistor) on the MSA Board (a little board on the front end of the main Transport Drawer.

To make the adjustment:
1. Open the front door, pull out the Main Transport Drawer and remove 2 front covers.
2. Push in and latch the drawer and close the front door.
3. Enter Diagnostics, press the ‘Machine Status” button, select “Tools” tab, and scroll down the Features list to select “Maintenance / Diagnostics”. Choose “IO Check” and then select “Analog Monitor”
3. Enter 077-100 as the “Chain-Link” on the Analog Monitor screen, then press the “Start” button.
4. Open the front door and select “Close” when the message screen says “check door / cover”.
5. Using a nonferrous screwdriver, rotate the screw on VR1 on the Multi-Feed PWB to adjust the level of sensitivity to 220 +/- 30 (see photo above to find VR1). Turning the tiny screw CW (Clock-Wise) will increase the value and CCW (Counter-Clock-Wise) decreases the value.
Fourth… Quite a few techs reported that NVM (memory) corruption on the IOT NVM caused the problem for them… They said that initializing the IOT NVM was the fix in those cases.
Finally… If you are going to replace the Multi-Feed Sensor OR the MSA PWB… Be aware that on the models WC-4112 / 4127 there was a Change / Tag which you need to pay attention to if you’re going to replace either the Multi Feed Sensor or the MSA PWB board. The two need to match the version you’re replacing. “Tag P-27”… introduced a new Registration Module with changes to the sensor, the chute it mounts to, the hardware for mounting it and the MSA PWB. So… you must order the matching Board or sensor or else they will not work. Below are the choices depending on if your machines “With Tag P-27” or “Without Tag P-27”
